FREE Childcare Places for 2 Year Olds

Is your child entitled to a place?

“Free Early Education Entitlement (FEEE) places are offered 570 hours a year, over no fewer than 38 weeks of the year, for every eligible child living at a Waltham Forest address, by providers approved by London Borough of Waltham Forest.”

At Redwood Pre-School, free 2 year old places are available for 15 hours per week during school term time for 38 weeks of the year.

2 year olds attend daily 3 hour sessions for either 5 mornings or 5 afternoons per week. We have a maximum of 8 places in each session for 2 year olds.

Our waiting list is held in order of date of birth with older children having priority.

2 year old FEEE place eligibility criteria:

  • Do you live in Waltham Forest? To be eligible your postcode must be in Waltham Forest. Proof of your address will be required and will be checked.
  • Do you receive one of the following?
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related Employment Support Allowance (ESA)
  • The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit but not entitled to Working Tax Credit and annual income less than £16,190

You will need to bring your current year HMRC benefits letter. We will photocopy your letter and keep it on file as evidence of your eligibility.

Parents and carers are able to check their own eligibility
by using the electronic on-line eligibility checker at website address

The following process will be carried out for all free 2 year old places:

  • Eligibility is checked using the parents/carers National Insurance Number, Date of Birth and first three letters of their surname.
  • The system will generate a unique reference number to confirm an eligibility check has been completed, which the parent/carer can print off or bring details of to their chosen childcare provider.
  • The childcare provider checks the reference number on the eligibility website to ensure they are eligible.
  • The childcare provider enters the unique eligibility reference number onto the Local Authority headcount return to claim FEEE funding for the child when a place is taken up. The Local Authority will check each reference number to verify eligibility.
